Derresha Shar'Daye Rhinehart
Derresha Shar’Daye Rhinehart was born on the morning of Saturday, January 12, 1991; the only child to the proud parents of Derrick Antonio Rhinehart and Georgia Ree Young-Rhinehart. Derresha was known to many as Shar’Daye. Shar’Daye started her education at four years old at the Mt. Olive Community Kindergarten in Chester, SC.
At age six, she began school at Chester Park Elementary where she was an honor roll student and a member of the Chester Park Jump Rope Team. As an active member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Shar’Daye sang on the youth choir, she was a member of the youth usher board, and was a volunteer for the Mt. Olive Community Kindergarten after school program.
Shar’Daye loved caring for others. Every week she would visit patients in the Chester Medical Center Nursing Home with her Grandmother. Shar’Daye wanted to be a doctor when she grew up. She expressed her interest by providing assistance to her Grandmother by helping to give medication and checking her blood pressure. Unfortunately, Shar’Daye’s grandmother passed away after an extended illness however, the career choice of becoming a doctor remained.
In March 2002, Shar’Daye was admitted to the Carolinas Medical Center for 21 days. While Shar’Daye was at Carolina’s Medical Center she was diagnosed with Leukemia. On April 15, 2002 the dreadful disease robbed her of life only five months after losing her Grandmother. When Shar’Daye passed, it was the dream of her father and mother to start a scholarship fund to help finance the college education of a deserving student. Shar’Daye would have graduated from high school in 2009. However since Shar’Daye wanted to become a doctor, the family decided that the scholarship should be presented to an individual who would attend a medical school or have an interest in a medical career.
Since 2009, we have given over 41 scholarships to students from Chester, Great Falls, Lewisville, Northwestern and Andrew Jackson High Schools.
